Our client was patient, responsive and the kind of client that truly deserved to be pampered! After all, women such as North Shore Mum Maryka, are always so busy with their work, life and family responsibilities that they often put their needs last and neglect themselves. It’s so common as a Skin and Laser Technician to see this amongst our mummy clients!

To give you a little background on Maryka, she is of Chinese descent with a Fitzpatrick Skin type of 4, and has quite olive skin. Leading an active and healthy lifestyle, Maryka has suffered from sun exposure pigmentation that had developed over the years, as well as some mild hormonal pigmentation (post two children).

During the initial consultation and assessment of her skin, I knew she would be a great candidate for medical grade pigmentation removal IPL treatment.

Due to Maryka’s skin type and cultural background, I treated her first four (4) treatments quite conservatively. In saying this, the treatments were still effective as we were building her skin’s tolerance so that she could achieve life changing and safe results.

After I assessed Maryka for the fourth time I knew she was really ready and her skin was prepped for what was to come. I told her, “Maryka, we are going to change your skin today. I hope you are excited”! I explained to her the treatment sensation she will experience, and also reassured her during the treatment what steps we were taking and what was happening. I love to make my clients feel as comfortable as possible, as most patients will experience some slight discomfort which is completely normal.

As always, I followed a strict skin treatment protocol, which included thorough examination of her medical history to determine any complications she may have and discussed any concerns she had. For Maryka’s last IPL pigmentation removal treatment, I prepped Maryka’s skin for two weeks prior to treatment using the Cosmedix Simply Brilliant. This product is a powerful skin brightening serum suitable to treat pigmentation, melasma pigmentation, un-even skin tone and photo damage. It is especially vital for clients with a skin type 4+ (like Maryka) to be using a tyrosine inhibitor to target existing pigmentation while preventing new problem areas to occur.

Using our popular IPL Cutera technology I treated Maryka on a C setting of 15J, using a combination of conductive gel as well as no gel. Gel can be used to temporarily calm the skin down before we treat capillaries which are usually present around the nose area. Whilst our target focus was Maryka’s pigmentation, why not also treat her capillaries on the face along with the pigmentation. As a passionate Skin and Laser Technician I can’t help myself from perfecting the canvas I’m working on. Best of all, our premium Cutera IPL skin rejuvenation technology allows us to tackle both concerns in one go. What more could you want!

Throughout the final treatment, Maryka was calm and pleasant. She let me know where the more sensitive spots on her face were so that I could ensure she was as comfortable as possible. Communication between a Skin and Laser Technician and client is so important to ensure treatment comfort and safety is achieved throughout the entire treatment process. After the treatment, I applied a cold compress on her face to assist in aiding any inflammation she may have felt. I applied post care serums and had her ready to leave the treatment room with one of my favourite post skin treatment and sun smart products – Synergie’s Uberzinc.

I sat with Maryka and discussed how she was feeling, handing her a mirror to show her that the pigment had already been stimulated by the IPL Cutera technology. It was obvious that the pigment was much darker on her face. She was aware that for the next week, her skin would be temporarily uneven, and under important advice to not pick at her skin nor rub the area treated. The skin needs to naturally exfoliate itself, which was the process that would begin in the next few days.

I followed up with Maryka post treatment, and she popped in the clinic between sessions to show me her skin post peeling. I knew her results would be unbelievable – and proof is in the before and after pictures. We discussed the importance of applying our prescribed post treatment skin care. She was recommended a range of active skin care, including Vitamin C - which is vital for stimulating collagen in the skin. This powerful antioxidant also protects the skin from age-causing free radicals.

The change in Maryka's skin, beginning August 2014 through to March 2015, is remarkable… her before and after images really speak for themselves. At The Laser Lounge, and specifically The Laser Lounge Northbridge, we are so proud of the service we offer. We feel privileged to treat our clients, and appreciate their trust in us to help improve their self- esteem, self-image and inner confidence. Our service is exceptional, and I’m proud to work in an environment where my client’s treatment progress is the focal point.

I saw Maryka last on the 27th of March 2015 for her final skin review. We were both very happy and have a new skin treatment plan to maintain her fabulous results!

For further queries regarding our pigmentation removal skin treatments please call 1300 963 962 and speak with one of our qualified Skin and Laser Technicians.

Thank you Louise from The Laser Lounge Northbridge for sharing your client’s treatment story from the Skin and Laser Technician’s perspective.

Today was a great day of cosmetic injection training in all things dermal fillers and ant-wrinkle treatments in Sydney!

The Laser Lounge hosted an internal workshop, where our NSW cosmetic medical team revised their theory in the facial anatomy whilst also practicing further advanced techniques in dermal filler and anti-wrinkle cosmetic injections. You’re never too experienced to participate in training! In a nutshell, our model patients were from four separate age categories, patient 1 was 20 to 30 years, patient 2 - 30 to 40 years, patient 3 - 40 to 50 years and lastly patient 4 was 50+.

One interesting question we were asked by all our model patients today was when should they have best started anti-wrinkle injections? Plus, what alternate options are there for younger skin? Our answer to these questions is simple; all patients should be assessed as an individual, and prescribed a personalised treatment plan to best correct their unwanted concern. In saying this, cosmetic and skin treatment plans should always consist of a holistic approach as no one treatment will treat all concerns. In fact, we at The Laser Lounge are advocates of combining modalities, and believe best practice is only achieved by those who are best educated, knowledgeable and experienced in understanding the skin in its true form.

It is only when a practitioner masters the skin they’ll then be best equipped to use IPL, Laser and skin technology along with cosmetic injectables to its full potential. Some popular cosmetic treatments for clients in their twenties include dermal fillers such as lip enhancements(improve the appearance of lips), hydration injections, platelet rich plasma for dark circles (dehydration/ late nights contribute to this) and scarring as well as anti-wrinkle injections around the eyes, forehead and between the brows for prevention of deeper lines.

Skin treatments we best recommend are microdermabrasion, IPL and fractional laser for pigmentation and scarring as well as corrective skin peels (also known as chemical peels) to maintain oil flow and balance in the skin. S We make a point to ensure that clients who undergo any cosmetic treatments at The Laser Lounge do not appear too overdone. We like to work with each patient’s natural beauty and enhance their features. We recommend if you’re seeking a cosmetic and/or skin consultation, book with our cosmetic medical team today.

You can also take advantage of our dermal filler lip enhancement special for only $389 per mil and our anti-wrinkle injections from only $3.95 per unit.

The Laser Lounge is proud to offer a range of industry leading skin peels, designed to target many common skin concerns, from acne and congestion, to a tired, lacklustre complexion.

We perform a variety of peels form our state-of-the-art clinics, all with differing strengths and active ingredients. If you’ve tried over the counter products or skin programs and are not seeing results, we invite you to visit The Laser Lounge for an obligation free consultation. Our skin technicians will be able to recommend a treatment plan based on your individual skin concerns and the results you wish to achieve.

Containing a cocktail of active ingredients, these formulations work by gently exfoliating the upper layer of skin to reveal fresher, more vibrant skin. From a quick ‘pick me up’ to a dramatic change in tone and texture, peels can be customised to suit the varying need of each client.

Our peels work to even skin texture, promote hydration, reduce the appearance of sun damage and pigmentation, and improve the appearance of enlarged pores, acne and superficial scarring.

Glycolic Peels

Glycolic acid is a naturally occurring alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), derived from sugar cane. Glycolic peels work to gently break down and remove the dry, upper-most layer of skin, revealing fresher, more vibrant skin.

Lactic Acid

Lactic acid is also a naturally occurring AHA derived from milk. As a mild but effective peel, lactic acid can also gently resurface the upper layer of skin while balancing hydration.

Jessner Peel

Jessner peels are a medium depth trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel, generally recommended for oily, congested and acne skin conditions. This treatment method can be more corrective than other AHA peels. A combination of salicylic acid, lactic acid and resorcinol, these peels can effectively penetrate past the top layer of skin, exfoliating and resurfacing the appearance of blemishes and aggressive acne. The Jessner peel can also even out skin texture and discolouration.

Contact us today

If you’d like more information about our superficial peels, please contact The Laser Lounge today. Our skin technicians will be happy to recommend a customised treatment plan and walk you through the many treatment options available.

Anti-wrinkle injections are different to dermal fillers

There is a lot of confusion about the difference between anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers. While dermal fillers aim to plump and fill lines, anti-wrinkle injections relax the muscles in the face, softening the appearance of lines, creases and wrinkles, while preventing further formation.

The results don’t have to be unnatural

The Laser Lounge is committed to ensuring that anti-wrinkle treatment reveals a more refreshed, youthful you. With a thorough attention to detail and an understanding of the anatomy of the face, we can achieve natural yet incredible results.

Anti-wrinkle injections won’t change your facial expression

When injected correctly, the solution will relax muscles beneath wrinkles, but not in the deeper muscles or sensory nerves. This means you will be able to feel and move the muscles in your face as perusual.

Anti-wrinkle treatments are not permanent

The benefits of treatment will last for about four months until lines begin to reform. This can be further prolonged with maintenance anti-wrinkle treatments. We recommend three to four treatments per year for maximum results. Some clients will be able to receive wrinkle treatments twice yearly when they reach maintenance stage.

Injections are not very painful

The fear of a painful injection can scare a lot of people away from anti-wrinkle treatments. The fact is, the treatment is very quick and discomfort is very mild. Often anti-wrinkle treatments are compared to a pinch or being bitten by a mosquito.

Injections can be used to prevent wrinkles

A lot of people wait until they have deep set wrinkles to address the problem. Once lines and wrinkles are deeply etched, they can be more difficult to smooth out. The muscle relaxer will work to prevent new lines from appearing, and can therefore be a great pre-emptive treatment.

Becoming increasingly common throughout the world, laser hair removal is rising to the top of cosmetic treatments, particularly in Australia and the United States. It’s still relatively misunderstood, however, just how this procedure works. With this in mind, we’ve put together a little guide to help those considering this treatment.

How exactly does this work?

Using a state-of-the-art laser technology system, intense beams of light are transmitted into the skin, ultimately destroying hair follicles to reduce growth. During this process, the light is kept at a pulsating rate, allowing a constant stream to access multiple follicles at one time and heating them up to a point of disintegration.

When the treatment takes place, the specialist will press the laser instrument up against the skin. In some cases, a cooling device or gel may be used to assist with protecting the area. As the laser is activated, the beams are distributed and the hair is eliminated. This process can take as little as 15 minutes or as much as a few hours, depending on the size of the area being treated. Common zones include the bikini line, upper lip, chin, legs and armpits.

Why choose this over other methods?

Laser hair removal is known for its ability to extend the amount of time between treatments, leaving your skin silky and smooth for longer. Thanks to the micro-targeting abilities of the laser, this procedure is able to pinpoint pigments more effectively that other hair removal options cannot offer.

Are there any risks associated with laser hair removal?

Just like most procedures, there is potential for irritation to occur post treatment. Those who undergo this method may experience some discomfort around the affected area, but these generally subside after a few hours. Clients should also be aware of possible changes in skin pigments, which is a completely natural occurrence. This is usually temporary.

What should be expected after the treatment?

For the first few hours, swelling or redness may be apparent. If any discomfort can be felt, ice should be applied to the area. In some cases, doctors may prescribe an over-the-counter pain medication or numbing agent/gel to assist with relief. Clients should also be aware of potential hair shedding from the skin within the first few weeks – this is not regrowth, but dead hair falling from the area.

What will the results look like?

Varying from one person to another, this treatment allows for a hair-free touch for months at a time. Multiple appointments are required, in order to achieve maximum results.

If you’ve decided to opt for laser hair removal, there are a number of ways that you can ensure the end-result reaches its full potential. A common mistake of those undergoing this procedure is the lack of understanding towards providing the skin with the necessary before and after care. Luckily, we’ve put together a few tips on how to prep for your treatment and to achieve the best outcome possible (you can thank us later).

BEFORE

Shaving within 12 hours prior to treatment will remove the necessary amount of extra growth, to avoid hair just being singed during treatment – unlike waxing, we do not need to see the hair on the surface to effectively eliminate it.

Under no circumstances should you expose yourself to direct sunlight, fake tan or a solarium. Apply sunblock liberally (no matter your intended activities for the day) and keep your skin thoroughly moisturised.

Do not wax or pluck for up to four weeks prior to your appointment. You may shave, but by using any other hair removal technique, you risk reducing the effectiveness of the treatment significantly.

Before heading into your laser hair removal treatment, ensure your skin is free of any cosmetics, beauty products, lotions, deodorant and creams.

Think carefully about what you intend on wearing to your appointment. Opt for loose fitting clothing that will allow you to comfortably expose the skin site to be treated easily. Also consider what will provide you with optimal comfort and minimal irritation after the session.

AFTER

It’s important that you do not pluck or wax any hair on the area that was treated. By doing so, you will disrupt the treatment process which may lead to potential stimulation of the hair follicle, in other words you could potentially spark regrowth.

Exfoliate the area once any redness subsides, approximately one to two weeks after your laser hair removal appointment.

Avoid extremely hot showers or baths for at least 48 hours after the treatment.

If discolouration/pigmentation occurs to the affected area, apply vitamin E to encourage soothing of the skin.

Avoid direct sunlight for at least two to four weeks after the treatment.

If you have undergone laser hair removal in a facial area, mineral makeup may be applied within the first 48 hours, but other cosmetics should be avoided until the skin has had time to heal.

Keep away from deodorants for at least three days to avoid causing irritation.

Whilst it’s not uncommon to experience itching, it’s important not the scratch the affected area. Scratching or causing a scab to arise may result in scarring.

Give your body 24-48 hours rest from excessive exercise, the gym or the sauna – these can all cause irritation.

Undergoing laser hair removal treatment can be a pleasant experience that delivers a flawless result, but much of this depends on your own ability to provide your skin with essential care. If you’d like to find out more about laser hair removal, our website contains a wealth of information on this procedure.

Whilst there’s nothing better than silky, smooth skin all year round, maintaining this luscious touch takes commitment. Thankfully, laser hair removal technology’s inception into the beauty industry makes this matter a whole lot easier to keep on top of, and with advancements continuously taking place, there’s a heap of benefits to reap.

It’s time to ditch the razors, and to get you started, we’ve put together five reasons to do so.

It hits the bull’s-eye

Thanks to state-of-the-art laser systems, this hair removal method can target specific areas of the body to tarnish hair follicles. This means laser specialists can individually focus on each strand, instead of applying a general solution.

It’s permanent

As the most effective hair removal technique currently available, laser allows for permanent reduction to be achieved by aiming concentrated laser light beams at each hair follicle. Converting this energy into distributed heat, the follicle reaches a temperature that stops growth in its tracks. This provides clients with a stable result that will also minimise the number of hairs that regrow after the treatment.

It’s perfect for the time-poor

Having an endless list of to-dos waiting to be ticked off means finding the quickest, most effective way of doing things is a must. Laser hair removal offers a process that literally eliminates hair “at the speed of light”. By targeting multiple hairs in the area at the same time, technicians can offer their clients a rapid, flawless treatment that will achieve their end-result in as little as a few minutes.

There’s no downtime

Unlike many other cosmetic treatments, laser hair removal doesn’t include a hefty period of recovery afterwards. Clients can virtually walk out of their session and back into their daily grind, without having to allocate time towards allowing the body to heal.

It’s far less painful than waxing

Waxing has long been a cringe-worthy topic for many, especially with its pain factor being considerably high. Generally, most clients agree that laser hair removal provides a treatment option that is less painful and uncomfortable than waxing. It’s important to note, however, that pain tolerance can differ from one person to another and at various areas of the body.

Undergoing laser hair treatment requires a basic understanding of the skin type you boast and the kind of techniques involved, as a result. Generally, technicians will consult with you in a one-on-one session to assess the safest approach to the overall treatment, according to your individual needs.

What skin type are you?
Laser hair removal equipment is effective for all skin skin types, however as one person differs from the next, its important technicians effectively analyse what they are working with.

There are six types that relate to this treatment:

Fair, Caucasian skin that is usually related to North European/Scandinavian origins

Generally Caucasian, this type includes fair skin that is related to European origins, mostly from English/Russian/German descents

Lighter types associated with Caucasians that are from Mediterranean descent – usually Hispanics/Italians/Spanish/Greeks. In most cases, these are lighter skinned Hispanics regions in South America

Those with medium skin from Hispanic/Asian/Persian/Middle Eastern descents

Medium dark to dark – typically African Americans/North Africans descents

Dark skin such as those with African descent.

With these variations in mind, technicians can opt for the most suitable medical laser equipment to conduct the treatment with. In most cases, these include the Diode, Alexandrite or Nd:Yg lasers. A lot to remember? No stress. We’ve outlined these below.

Diode lasers: Usually you’ll hear brands such as Lumenis Lightsheer, Vectus Laser etc, these are the most common – due to their reputation as the highest standard laser hair removal. Diode is best suited for types one to four.

Alexandrite lasers: Growing in use internationally, and competition to the Diode laser, this is an effective option for lighter types, but not for skin types four to six. This is due to its risk of hyperpigmentation or even blistering.

Long Pulsed NG:Yg lasers: Used for darker skin types or those with thick and coarse hair, the physical features of this laser means penetration is deeper, allowing for the beams to bypass the layers of skin where higher levels of melanin is present (usually in darker skin types). Popular Yag lasers include the Candela GentleYag Pro, Cutera NdYag etc.

An experienced technicians from The Laser Lounge will ensure you understand the processes outline above, including your own skin type, the equipment best suited for you and the complexity of the procedure.
