Platetlet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a cosmetic skin rejuvenation treatment, which is recommended to stimulate the inflammatory cascade, and helps to not only heal the body but encourage healthy cell renewal.
During this treatment, PRP is injected in the mid to deep dermis layer of the skin using a similar technique to many other types of filler treatments.
PRP involves the collection of blood, approximately 8 to 16 mls, which is then spun down using a centrifuge. This process separates the plasma and platelet portion of the blood with the assistance of a separator gel as a special filter.
The PRP portion of your blood is then injected back into your skin during the treatment, in order to stimulate new collagen production, whilst also revitalising your cells to embark on the rejuvenation process.
Best of all, what is injected in your skin is naturally 100% your own blood by-product.
Immediately post treatment, clients will experience swelling from the fluid. This will subside. The platelets will then begin to stimulate growth factors, which aids in collagen growth. This renewal process will enable an improved overall texture and tone of the skin to become more visible from 2 to 3 weeks post treatment, and will continue to improve gradually over ongoing months. To best enhance results, it is recommended combining modalities such as IPL and or Laser therapies, skin corrective treatments and prescribed cosmeceuticals. Speak with your RN/Cosmetic Doctor on how best to personalise treatments for optimal treatment outcomes.
You can expect minimal swelling, bruising and/ or redness for 12 to 72 hours post treatment. Some clients may experience a headache, whilst others (although rare) may feel faint. A bruise at the venepuncture site may be visible for 2 to 3 days post treatment, but can be easily covered with makeup.
It is recommended to have at least 3 treatments, 4 to 6 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments are then recommended once every 6 to 12 months thereafter.
As the quality of plasma available between individuals will vary, a variation in treatment outcomes is to be expected between clients.
- Avoid touching areas treated for at least 2 hours post injection. This will allow the injection site to heal adequately.
- Ensure your hands are clean and free from debris and/or germs when touching any areas treated to avoid external infection.
- Avoid any oil based skin care products, heavy cosmetics and thick moisturisers for at least 4 hours post treatment.
- Patience is required, swelling may be present and requires 24 to 72 hours to subside.
- When treating the face, we recommend keeping your head elevated at all times when resting and/or sleeping.
- Your treated area may feel tender for a few days post treatment. When swollen, you may massage the area treated with a neutral cream and/or prescribed cosmeceuticals from your Cosmetic Injector.
- Follow up reviews are required 2 to 4 weeks post treatment.
- Quarterly check ups with your Cosmetic Injector are recommended to maintain a successful treatment outcome.
Depending on your skin, the areas being treated and the number of vials required treatment prices will vary. Discounts may apply when purchasing treatments in a package, this will be discussed in your consultation. For example, prices start from $270 per vial in a ten treatment package, where singular treatment prices start from $450.
