How does anti-wrinkle treatments work?

Many facial wrinkles occur when we use our muscles to make repeated facial expressions. Anti-wrinkle injections are a natural purified protein that causes temporary muscle weakening.

A small amount of anti-wrinkle product is injected using a fine needle into the muscles that need to be weakened. Once the muscles are relaxed, you cannot contract and continue to make the undesirable facial expressions. Thus, the lines in your face gradually become smooth and new lines are prevented from forming

Are anti-wrinkle treatments safe?

Doctors have been performing cosmetic injectable treatments such as anti-wrinkle treatments in Australia since 1988. Medical conditions relating to facial ticks and muscle spasms were treated even before this in 1973.

Why do I need a consultation?

Consultations are conducted with clients before the treatment to:
• Assess if the anti-wrinkle treatment is appropriate for you
• Explain the anti-wrinkle treatment process
• Advise pre and post treatment care instructions
• Advise the cost of treatment

Are anti-wrinkle treatments painful?

Tolerance levels vary for all. In most cases clients will say that they felt no pain or a slight sensation that was minimal and tolerable.

Are there any post treatment restrictions?

Our team will advise you post treatment care instructions during your treatment. In most cases, you will be able to resume with your normal activities immediately with minimal redness or numbness.

Some clients may experience tenderness and bruising post treatment. In rare cases you may experience headache, nausea or temporary eyelid droop. If you experience any of these side effects, your Doctor will advise any necessary steps to take.

Are the results of anti-wrinkle treatments permanent?

The effect of anti-wrinkle treatments can last up to 4 months before lines slowly begin to return. If you have repeated anti-wrinkle treatments, the effects tend to last longer.

How do I know if the anti-wrinkle treatment is working?

You will see lines gradually smooth approximately 2 weeks post treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

One (1) treatment may be required and if agreed by your Doctor follow up treatments may be booked.

How do I know when to come in for my next treatment?

Anti-wrinkle treatments will relax the facial muscles that cause expression lines. It does not cause more wrinkles to form. If you choose not to have any further anti-wrinkle treatments, your muscles will eventually return to normal activity and your wrinkles will gradually revert to their pre-treatment levels.

How will I look in between the treatments?

Your skin should be smooth and appear to look more youthful.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Anti-wrinkle treatments should cause minimal discomfort. If side effects are experienced they are generally temporary injection site-related effects, which should last 3 days or less.

Clients may experience injection site redness, pain, firmness/hardness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching or discolouration, drooping eyelids, skin tightness, tingling sensations and/or nausea.

Will my medication affect my treatment?

Medication may affect your treatment procedure and wrinkle-free results. Please advise your Doctor prior to treatment of any medications you are taking. We do not recommend treating women who are pregnant.
