The Bronze and The Beautiful… Spray Tanning vs. Sun Tanning and Solarium!

So you want to wear a bikini or white dress this Spring, but can you pull off looking sexy without going bronze? Read on as The Laser Lounge discusses your options to be bronze and beautiful this Spring!

Sun Tanning (Sun Exposure)

While your efforts by the pool, beach and outdoors to get that perfect tan may look great for a week, have you REALLY thought about what this does to your skin? There are many consequences behind a simple sun tan. Skin cells in the epidermis (the top or outer layer of the skin) produce a pigment called melanin, which gives skin its colour. When the skin is exposed to UV radiation, melanin is produced and the skin darkens. Sounds simple, but a tan is a sign that your skin has been exposed to too much UV radiation and consequently damage occurs to the skin whether you see it straight away or not. Hyper-Pigmentation, Freckles, Sun Spots and Pre-Mature Aging can happen and many of The Laser Lounge clients now must undergo corrective Laser Skin Rejuvenation treatments to minimise the initial damage caused from excessive sun exposure.

The Solarium option is definitely not safer than sun tanning. Just like the sun, solariums release UVA and UVB radiation, which can seriously damage the skin, harm your eyes and can cause the most feared of all, skin cancer. Tanning in solariums can be especially dangerous as the UV radiation from solariums can be five times as strong as the midday summer sun. The Laser Lounge alongside The Cancer Council encourages the recent regulations preventing minors under 18 years to experience the side effects of solariums. Government bodies are educating Young Australians early on of the dangers of these tanning methods and consequences of ignoring the famous “Slip, Slop, Slap”.

Quick Fact: Did you know that people who use a solarium before the age of 35 have a 75% greater risk of melanoma than those who don’t use solariums? Is this tanning method worth trialling?

Spray Tanning

Have you thought about a spray tan? They’re 100% safe, affordable and they look great! You can be evenly tanned within 15 minutes and no damage to the skin is caused. The evenness of spray tanning is almost impossible to achieve from sun exposure and best of all, you don’t risk sun damage spots, freckles and pigmentation appearing or skin cancer. Yay! The Laser Lounge is known for their perfect spray tans! We use the best spray tanning colour, equipment and products to avoid the dreaded “orange” tans of the past, leaving you with the perfect bronze tan. The only point to consider is that spray tans aren’t permanent and if you want to stay bronze, you’ll require being re sprayed every 10 to 14 days – otherwise you can just re-tan before your next outing. You will need to wait 4 to 8 hours after a spray tan before you shower and then to upkeep results it’s best to keep moisturising. In saying this, spray tanning is the safest alternative to sun tanning and using solariums in achieving that perfect bronze tan.

Which option do you prefer? Sun Tanning, Solarium or Spray Tanning…

The Laser Lounge will let you decide!
