Supporting Women! Fitted For Work Charity Event

Nadia Speaking at the Fitted for Work Event

On Thursday 9th August, Westpac hosted a charity event for the non-profit organisation, Fitted For Work. Since 2005, Fitted For Work has transformed the lives of over 7,500 women who are experiencing disadvantage. The amazing volunteer workers provide free interview appropriate clothing through their personal dressing services in Melbourne, Morwell and Parramatta whilst also offering mentoring and transition to work programs for their clients.

Jane Hunt, CEO of Fitted For Work, took to the stage to explain to guests the inspirational and selfless work that the volunteers at this organisation do in order to change so many women’s lives. The Laser Lounge girls were particularly moved and inspired by the story of Nadia, who is currently a volunteer at the Parramatta boutique. Nadia grew up in Nowra in a family riddled with alcoholism and abuse. As a result, she fell into a spiral of drug abuse, eventually finding herself in a women’s correctional centre at a young age. It was in this correctional centre that Nadia realised she wanted to ‘correct’ herself.

With very little work experience and 5 children to support, Nadia decided she had to take action. Dressed in blue trackies, a hoody and she joked, matching blue and white sneakers to accessorise, she approached the helpful ladies at Fitted For Work. It was there she was transformed from the inside out as she was dressed in an exquisite suit jacket, skirt, heels and accessories to match. She was also given the tools to attend her job interview that same day with the utmost confidence and professionalism. Nadia, who is now a volunteer at Fitted For Work, is now in the process of opening an on-site boutique in which she can train young girls like herself to change the lives of women who walk through their front doors.
