Spider Veins:
What are Spider veins?
Spider veins are often small, tangled groups of tiny blood vessels just under the skins surface that frequently resemble spider webs or tree branches. They are generally red, blue or purple and are clearly visible, usually on the thighs, lower legs and face. For some, the reduction of spider veins is for aesthetic reasons where as others may experience cramps, discomfort or swelling.
There are different causes for spider veins, some may include;
- Aging
- Sun exposure
- hormonal shifts
- Smoking
- Drinking alcohol
- Obesity
- Occupation
- Poor blood circulation (vein health)
- Heredity
- Birth control
Spider veins are more prevalent in women than men; however men are still susceptible to this condition. Women are known to experience spider veins more frequently due to acquiring oral contraceptives and issues relating to pregnancy and/or obesity. On the other hand, men who spend large amounts of time outdoors in the sun and wind in discharge of their occupational responsibilities have been found to be more susceptible to spider vein problems. The singular factor common to all these conditions is poor blood circulation within the metabolic system.
