Dermaroller™ Skin Needling - Scar Reduction Therapy - The Laser Lounge:
How does Clinical Skin Needling work?
The Dermaroller™ is a cylindrical shaped drum studded with very fine needles. It is a medical device used in micro needling to stimulate skin cells to proliferate.
Collagen Induction Therapy
Dermaroller™ – Collagen Induction Therapy procedure works by stimulating your own body’s collagen. Your body will start to naturally regenerate the skin, working below the surface in the dermis. New skin cells are generated and blood supply is enhanced. It improves the thickness of the dermis as well as the epidermis. This in return improves skin texture and reduces wrinkles. It also has a positive effect on hyper-pigmentation as well as hypo-pigmentation, new collagen fibres, an improved blood supply and harmonise pigmentation. It will only take up to 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration are seen and the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a gradual and long lasting enhancement.
Scar Reduction Therapy
Dermaroller™ – Scar Reduction Therapy procedure works by releasing old fibrotic scar tissue deep within the skin. Scar tissue is what creates visible scars on the skin’s surface. The treatment will repair the skin naturally, working below the surface in the dermis. This takes time as new collagen and elastin fibres are formed, softening scars, generating new skin cells and enhancing blood supply. Results can be seen within 6 weeks, and a total of 70-80% improvement of scars.
Is Clinical Skin Needling Safe?
As the Dermaroller™ does not use thermal heating to rejuvenate the skin it is safe to use on all skin types and colours. Best of all, there is no risk of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.
In compliance with Australian OHS standards, all Dermaroller™ needles are disposed immediately after each clinical treatment. The Laser Lounge also has gone above and beyond by investing only in ARTG approved skin needles, ensuring you experience a safe and quality treatment.
Why do I need a consultation?
Consultations are conducted with clients before the treatment to:
- Assess if the Clinical Skin Needling treatment is appropriate for you
- Explain the Clinical Skin Needling process
- Advise pre and post treatment care instructions
- Advise the cost of treatment
Are Clinical Skin Needling treatments painful?
Tolerance levels vary for all. Topical anaesthetic creams are applied for individuals who wish to numb the skin pre treatment. After numbing agents are applied to the skin, most clients will say that they felt no pain or a slight sensation that was minimal and tolerable.
How should I prepare before for my treatment?
To minimise the possibility of adverse skin effects we recommend avoiding the following activities for at least 2 to 4 weeks prior to your treatment:
- Sun exposure (apply SPF 30 + sunscreen daily)
- Solariums
- Topical fake tans
- Prescription strength exfoliants
- AHA’s (Glycolic Acid), Retinol, acidic or “active” ingredients (confirm active ingredients with your Skin and Laser Therapist)
- Dermal Fillers and/or Cosmetic Injectables
- Thick and clogging make ups
Please Note: For optimum treatment results to be achieved, para-medical skin care may be recommended to be used a few days prior to treatment. Your Skin and Laser Specialist will advise during your initial skin consultation.
Are there any post treatment restrictions?
Your Skin and Laser Specialist will advise you post treatment care instructions during your treatment. In most cases, once the redness has calmed down you are able to resume with your normal activities. It is best to treat the area with care as you would a mild sunburn.
Please avoid the following activities until the redness has calmed down:
- Use of prescription strength exfoliant creams
- AHA’s (Glycolic Acid), Retinol, acidic or “active” ingredients (confirm active ingredients with your Skin and Laser Therapist)
- Swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/ chlorine
- Activities that cause excessive perspiration
- Dermal Fillers and/or Cosmetic Injectables
Please avoid the following activities in between and post treatments:
- Sun exposure (apply SPF 30 + sunscreen daily on areas being treated)
- Solariums (cover all areas being treated)
Please Note: For optimum treatment results to be achieved, para-medical skin care may be recommended to be used post treatment. For example. An anti-inflammatory cleanser to soothe, hyaluronic acid to hydrate, copper to help heal and zinc to help heal but also to protect.
Your Skin and Laser Therapist will recommend you skin care during your initial skin consultation.
Is Clinical Skin Needling permanent?
When qualified and highly trained Skin and Laser Specialists, such as the team at The Laser Lounge perform treatments, Clinical Skin Needling treatments are very effective.
Results may last for several years and Clinical Skin Needling will provide significant benefits to concerned skin. However due to a combination of factors such as life style and free radical damage, maintenance treatments may be recommended.
It is important to avoid excessive sun exposure and apply SPF 30+ sunscreen daily during and post treatments.
How do I know if Clinical Skin Needling treatments are working for me?
You will see real results during your treatment course. Your skin may initially look red a couple days post treatment and then shortly after the redness will start to minimise. The results will become more impressive with each successive treatment. Your skin’s overall texture and complexion will also improve throughout the treatment course.
Our clients are continually experiencing great results and value for money at The Laser Lounge!
How many treatments will I need?
For best results, on average we recommend completing 1 to 3 treatments. As the condition of skin and individual expectations will differ the number of treatments required may vary. During your consultation your Skin and Laser Specialist will discuss a personalised treatment plan for you.
Maintenance treatments may be recommended to be performed on the area for some clients based on the skin’s colour, condition and personal lifestyle.
How do I know when to come in for my next treatment?
On average we recommend treating the area 6 weeks apart. Your Skin and Laser Specialist will assess your individual progress throughout your treatment course, recommending the best time to return for your follow up treatment. If you are uncertain, please feel free to ask our team.
How will I look in between the treatments?
If experienced, the inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish (on average lasts 12 to 24 hours). In order to reduce visible redness, we recommend healing minerals, peptides or hyaluronic acid after the procedure, and to protect the skin with zinc based sunscreen. We also recommend the use of mineral make-up to assist healing, however make-up should be applied the day after.
Are there any risks or side effects?
Immediately following a Clinical Skin Needling treatment, clients may experience either slightly reddened or swollen skin. It feels somewhat like a mild sunburn. This effect is very normal and will disappear shortly after. Damage to the skin is very rare. As the tiny pricking channels close within minutes, and the treatments are performed under clinical conditions, post-op infections are very unlikely. Our Skin and Laser Specialist team are experienced and are here to ensure you experience a satisfying treatment.
Will my medication affect my treatment?
Certain medications may affect your Clinical Skin Needling treatment if they are photosensitive (such as Roaccutane and Retin A which can cause pigmentation). If you are taking any medications it is best to advise your Skin and Laser Specialist so that we can ensure the best possible treatment results for you. Depending on the medication course, we may suggest performing treatments at least 2 to 6 months after taken.
Why Clinical Skin Needling – Dermaroller for the Skin?
In contrast to all ablative techniques like laser and Fractional Laser treatments, the only ARTG approved medical device for skin needling – Dermaroller™ stimulates new tissue formation whilst acting constructively maintaining the skin intact. The skin does not get damaged and therefore will not go into a wound healing response. The Dermaroller™ significantly improves skin concerns.
