Shucks… I’m blushing! Rosacea and how to treat it.

Rosacea And How To Treat It

Rosacea is a common but poorly misunderstood skin disorder that affects so many people, even high profile celebrities! It characteristically involves the central region of the face, causing persistent redness or transient flushing over the areas of the face and nose that normally blush. It is most commonly seen in people with light skin and particularly those of English, Irish and Scottish backgrounds. Some of the noticeable symptoms include:

  • Redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead
  • Small visible blood vessels on the face
  • Bumps or pimples on the face
  • Watery or irritated eyes

There are also several known triggers to Rosacea, which causes excess redness, flushing and watery or irritated eyes including:

  • Heat
  • Heavy exercise
  • Sunlight
  • Very cold temperatures
  • Alcohol
  • Menopause
  • Emotional stress

You may think you are one of very few that experience symptoms of Rosacea, but it affects more people than you realise! High profile celebrities such as Renee Zelweger and Cameron Diaz experience the symptoms of Rosacea. Even former US President, Bill Clinton, has suffered from this condition (although swatting those embarrassing cheating allegations is enough to make anyone of us blush!). Even though the cause of Rosacea is unknown, there is sufficient medical advice available that can control, treat and reduce the signs and symptoms of this disorder.

In saying this, IPL Photo Skin Rejuvenation is extremely effective in treating and reducing the appearance of Rosacea as it emits a light energy that specifically targets and is absorbed by dilated blood vessels. This process allows the light to travel to the vascular structures of the skin, causing the blood to clot within the vessels and then be destroyed and absorbed by the skin. Immediately following your treatments you may find your skin to be slightly red or bumpy (almost like a mild sunburn!) Don’t panic if a few broken capillaries swell up and become more noticeable… this is normal; eventually they will dissolve into the skin during the treatment course.

IPL Photo Skin Rejuvenation will improve and reduce the redness and flushing appearance of the skin. Treatments will be required occasionally after the initial treatment course is completed, as Rosacea is a skin condition that requires maintenance! For the best results we recommend 4 to 6 treatments followed by maintenance treatments when needed.
