Have you ever wondered why red veins never seem to clear from your face? What could possibly cause red facial veins to even appear? To reduce these annoying veins, is it going to cost a lot of money, take up a lot of time and is it going to be obvious that you have had a skin treatment done?
Red facial veins also known as broken capillaries are commonly found on the cheeks, nose and chin. They appear like small red / pink threads under the skin’s surface and generally occur on dehydrated, dry and sensitive skin types where the skin is most often thin and less protected. On the technical side, broken capillaries occur when the capillary walls narrow and widen too quickly, causing the muscles in the walls to tear. This in turn allows the blood to seep out resulting in “broken capillaries”. However, sometimes they are not actually broken but simply enlarged. This is called telangiectasia.
Although genetically, some are more prone to broken capillaries than others, broken capillaries can still be triggered by external influences.
Common external influences may include (but not limited to);
1. Extreme temperature and/or environment changes
2. Sun exposure
3. Over stimulation on the area (example, squeezing a pimple or excessive exfoliation of the skin)
5. Excessive use of alcohol, caffeine and/or smoking
6. Clogging make up and dyes (found most often in blushers)
Although broken capillaries can be triggered at any stage, the unwanted red facial veins can be controlled. At The Laser Lounge we recommend IPL Skin Rejuvenation Treatments and DMK Corrective Skin Treatments to reduce unwanted broken capillaries!
Just check out the before and after image of one of our client's IPL Skin Rejuvenation treatments taken last week to treat broken capillaries on the chin (courtesy of The Laser Lounge Sydney CBD). This image is taken after the client's first treatment and you can see the capillaries have diffused and their is only slight redness visible which is expected immediately post treatment. For best results, we recommend at least 4 to 6 treatments approximately 14 days apart. Treatments can take anywhere between 5 to 30 minutes and most come in during their lunch break, so no one will even know that you're missing!
How does IPL treat unwanted broken capillaries?
Firstly, IPL emits a light energy that specifically targets and is absorbed by dilated blood vessels. This process allows the light to travel to the vascular structures of the skin, causing the blood to clot within the vessels and then be destroyed and absorbed by the skin. IPL will improve and reduce the redness and flushing appearance of the skin. Treatments will be required occasionally after the initial treatment course is completed to maintain control over the skin condition.
IPL also stimulates natural collagen and elastin production in the active skin cells (fibroblasts), improving the skin’s overall texture and complexion. Skin rejuvenation treatments overall improve the skin’s colour and texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and minimises open pores. You can achieve all this at the same time when treating your broken capillaries!
On the other hand, if you prefer to avoid para-medical technologies, and instead would opt for a corrective skin treatment, we highly recommend in clinic DMK corrective skin treatments and DMK skin home care to maintain healthy skin! DMK believes that the origin of most skin conditions is a result of disharmony within the skin. Using the principles of biochemistry, DMK has formulated a range of treatments and products designed to educate skin to perform like youthful healthy skin. By matching formulations with the body’s chemistry, the skin is encouraged to respond in a positive manner. DMK’s revolutionary concept of REMOVE, REBUILD, PROTECT, MAINTAIN aims to match an individual’s biochemistry with the appropriate skin therapy. Botanical-based paramedical products make up the DMK skin care program.
