Kerri-Anne Kennerley – An inspiration to Australian Women!

by

Screen shot 2013-06-18 at 5.05.33 PM

As many of you already know, The Laser Lounge is extremely excited to be attending the Rescu-Me Life Make Over event to be held at the Hilton Sydney on Saturday 29th June! Bahar Etminan, Founder and Editor of Rescu.com.au is hosting the Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle event of the year. For us, we are personally very thrilled that the inspirational Kerri-Anne Kennerley will be our MC for the day!

Kerri-Anne Kennerley is a fixture in Australian households, having most recently competed on Channel 7’s ‘Dancing With the Stars”. She is one of Australia’s female icons and, an inspiration to women around the world, having overcome her public battle with Breast Cancer.

“My whole world was turned upside down last year when I was diagnosed with cancer,” she says. “It sounds cliché, but although Australian women have a one in eight risk of developing breast cancer, never in my wildest dreams did I think it would happen to me. I have no family history of it and had mammograms regularly, so it came as such a shock.” Kennerley said to The Daily Telegraph.

Did you know???

  • Every day in Australia, more than 30 women discover they have breast cancer.
  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women aged over 35 years — 29% of all cancers diagnosed.
  • 9 out of 10 women who get breast cancer do not have a family history of the disease.

Kennerley not only has overcome her battle with Breast Cancer, but she has also revealed her latest healthy fight, shedding light on Australia’s crippling Vitamin D deficiency. Even though Kennerley thought she was doing enough to remain healthy, she did not realise her commitment to sun safety was actually preventing her from obtaining the adequate and safe levels of UV exposure.

Now, The Laser Lounge motto is sun protection, sun protection, sun protection! However, in saying this, one must research the recommended amount of time to spend in the sun (with the correct sunscreen and UV protection) in order to obtain healthy Vitamin D levels, preventing bone disease and specifically, Osteoporosis!

Overall, what we find most inspiring about Kerri-Anne Kennerley, is not necessarily the strength she has shown to overcome these battles, but her commitment to speaking up about her health issues and the statistics in Australia in order to help women around the country.

Don’t forget to hop onto our Facebook Page and ‘LIKE’ our Rescu-Me post for your chance to win a DOUBLE PASS to the lifestyle event with Bita and Gita themselves and see Kerri-Anne in action ‘inspiring others!’. To purchase tickets for the event, please visit http://rescu-me.eventbrite.com.au/.

How The Laser Lounge can give you back your Pregnancy Glow!

by

Screen shot 2013-06-13 at 4.21.04 PM

We all know that one of the GREAT side effects of being a mum-to-be is fresh, glowing and dewy skin! But in some cases, expecting mum’s can experience skin concerns during pregnancy such as dark patches of skin, stretch marks and uneven skin texture. Although you may have had to resist treating your skin during pregnancy (this is normally a contraindication to most skin treatments), The Laser Lounge is here to pamper our new mummies with our corrective skin treatments! After all, the last 9 months have been long, painful and let’s face it… not so pretty.

Just today, we received a lovely Facebook Testimonial from one of our clients who is a new mum and travelled all the way from the central coast to visit us for a Skin Treatment:

A big Thank you to Bita and one of the students (Wendy) who performed my Microdermabrasion yesterday at the training college… My skin looks and feels amazing! Great way to help make a new mummy feel like she’s getting her pre baby glow back! Lol can’t wait for my next treatment in July! Xx”

RP, Central Coast

So leave bub in the caring hands of nanna, pop or hubby and pop into The Laser Lounge for some ‘me-time’

Change in Pigmentation:

This is a common side effect for expecting mum’s! The change in pigmentation on your face is called Chloasma or Melasma. They are caused by high levels of pregnancy hormones in your body and may also run in the family, depending on your background and skin type.

How to treat it? Clinic Microdermabrasion!

Stretch Marks:

Stretch marks are one of the more embarrassing side effects of gaining weight during your pregnancy. At first, stretch marks appear pink, reddish brown or purple in colour, the pigmentation eventually fades and these turn into white stretch marks.

How to treat it? Clinic Skin Needling!

Uneven Skin Texture:

The stress, hormonal changes and tiredness that come with being a new mum can take its toll on your skin. You may have had clear and beautiful skin before and during the pregnancy, but break out in spots a month or so after childbirth.

How to treat it? DMK Enzyme Corrective Skin Treatment!

So no matter what your skin concern may be, to all our new mum’s out there, we are passionate about making you feel special and spoiled whilst also treating the nitty gritty skin concerns that come along with being a parent. For further information on any of the treatments listed, please call The Laser Lounge on 1300 963 962 or email info@thelaserlounge.com.au!

Real Review of AACDS Treatments at The Laser Lounge National Training Centre

by

Screen shot 2013-06-10 at 4.38.18 PM

Have you heard about our AACDS practical training sessions held at The Laser Lounge National Training Centre in Castle Hill? If not, this is what you need to know! The Australasian Academy of Cosmetic Dermal Science (AACDS) is the premier college established to meet all your educational needs in relation to dermal therapies and cosmetic nursing. Now of course, we all know, that The Laser Lounge are huge advocates for education and regulation… which is why it was natural for us to team up with the AACDS to provide practical training components for students of beauty and medical backgrounds!

Since partnering with the AACDS, we have received some fantastic feedback regarding our Student Clinic and training environment in terms of treatments, students and overall experience! Check out this fantastic review by one of our AACDS student models, SH from West Pennant Hills:

How did you hear about the NSW AACDS Practical Training Sessions at The Laser Lounge National Training Centre?

I heard about the sessions through a friend employed by The Laser Lounge, and received a Facebook invitation to attend. I had never heard of many of the skin treatments available, but I was excited to know I had access to intensive and corrective skin treatments at heavily discounted prices!

What treatments have you booked in for?

I have recently booked in for a Clinical Microdermabrasion treatment and a Jessner Peel.

What was your first impression of The Laser Lounge National Training Centre?

The National Training Centre was professional and friendly, I felt comfortable and very well looked after by all staff and students. I felt that the whole experience was conducted at a high standard of customer care!

How did you find your experience overall as a student model?

I received a lot of care and information prior to the treatment, while making sure I was comfortable with the environment, student and treatment. Although students were learning the procedures sometimes for the first time, the experience was no different than if I had been at a para-medical beauty clinic. The treatment was thorough and I was made to feel comfortable during and after it was done.

What were the results of your Jessner Peel treatment?

After the Jessner peel, I experienced tightness and peeling which uncovered a new layer of bright, smooth, evenly-toned skin which means little to no make up for me! I was very pleased with the results! Thank you AACDS!

If you would like to book in for one of our upcoming AACDS Practical Training Sessions, please call the Castle Hill team on 9894 5665 or email aacds@thelaserlounge.com.au!

5 Reasons Why Exercise Improves Your Skin!

by

The Laser Lounge Client Sian Jay Excercising and looking great

Whether you’re bright red after a spin class, or sweating it out during your daily exercise regime, exercise is great for your skin! You may be reading this and thinking, but every time I work out I get break outs, my clogged pores appear larger and/or my skin feels dry and irritated! Trust me, you aren’t the only one, and there certainly are many that do experience these annoying concerns whilst exercising!

It’s not solely because of “exercise”, that you breakout and/or feel dry. On many occasions, common concerns arise as a result of wearing make-up during workouts, not drinking enough water (causing excessive dehydration) and not using corrective skin care before and after exercise. For example, if your skin is feeling hot and/or irritated from a high intensity workout, ensure that you spray your skin with a hydrating mist! As skin specialists, we know the benefits of this, and aren’t shy of carrying a spare bottle in our gym bag!

So you now know you can’t use your skin as an excuse to get out of exercising! In fact, below are 5 quick points on why exercise is actually not only good, but great for your skin!

  1. Sweating
By increasing the activity of sweat glands, you encourage the release of toxins that clog pores and cause your skin to breakout.
Quick Tip: Wash your skin thoroughly post work out to prevent bacterial or fungal infections.
  2. Muscle Toning
Strong and firm muscles support your skin to appear firm and elastic. Toning your skin also reduces the appearance of dimply skin (commonly found on the buttock or thighs).
  3. Boosts blood flow and oxygen
Exercise allows your body’s natural nutrients to improve the overall health of your skin by encouraging blood flow and oxygen to the skin cells.
  4. Reduces stress
Stress increases hormone production, which can be a common denominator linked to acne. By keeping your stress levels under control, you’re less likely to breakout!
  5. Running towards a natural glow
As your skin produces more natural healthy oils, exercising does give you a “glow”. However, it’s best to balance out your new “glow” with a healthy skin care regime, including corrective cleansers, toners, moisturisers and serums.

Still not convinced… Well check out one of our real Laser Lounge clients, busy and bubbly working mum, Sian Jay (pics above), who works out daily, and maintains amazing healthy glowing skin!

So there you have it ladies and gents! In a nutshell, exercising is and can be great for your skin! If you have any enquiries on how best to look after your skin whilst exercising, please feel free to contact one of our professional and friendly Skin and Laser Technicians via email info@thelaerlounge.com.au or call 1300 963 962.

Happy exercising!

It’s called… the Micro Peel!

by

Check out this fantastic review by our Media Relations Co-Ordinator, Naseem, who has been using DMK products for 18 months alongside DMK and Laser Lounge Skin Corrective Treatments:

“In my teenage and young adult years, I have consistently suffered from oily and congested skin, which causes breakouts that are embarrassing and painful. I had tried every known skin care range that was available with no success (and on the odd occasion, with adverse or strange reactions!).

It wasn’t until Bita and Gita introduced me to the DMK skin care range at a launch party hosted at The Laser Lounge Castle Hill clinic…. and I have never looked back! In recent weeks, I added a new product to my DMK skin care collection and I was so IMPRESSED with my results that I just had to share my feedback!

It’s called… The Micro Peel.

Micro Peel is a non-irritating exfoliant, which smooths and gently removes dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. It is a clear liquid gel that is spread evenly on the skin to improve dull and coarse texture as well as fine lines and uneven skin tones.

Firstly, it is SO easy to use. You simply apply a thin layer of Micro Peel to the skin and either cleanse after ten minutes (or if you have thick, tough and oily skin like me… you can leave it on overnight). I have been doing this 2 to 3 nights a week for the past 2 weeks. Secondly, it is time AND cost effective. For $86, the large bottle is REALLY LARGE… and I’ve barely put a dent in it since I purchased it 2 weeks ago. It could easily last you up to year, I would say. It takes 2 minutes to apply and then I’m snug as a bug in a rug, ready for my beauty sleep! Thirdly, my skin has never looked so fresh… ever. It has a constant glow (which a lot of my friends and family have been commenting on recently) and it doesn’t feel as stripping or aggressive as a lot of other exfoliating products on the market.

I truly believe in the DMK products and I look forward to seeing my skin improve even more as I continue to delve into the skin treatments throughout winter!”

To find out more about our DMK product range and corrective skin treatments, please call The Laser Lounge on 1300 963 962 or email info@thelaserlounge.com.au!

Our QnA with Top Fitness Model… Sophie Guidolin!

by

Sophie Guidolin is an outstanding Australian Fitness Model, who, with hard work and dedication, took out the 2012 INBA Sports Model competition. Being a mother of two young sons took a toll on Sophie’s body, as she gained 28 kgs throughout each pregnancy. It was then, that she decided to embark on her own personal lifestyle change and made a huge turn around! Combining weight training, cardio and clean eating habits has brought Sophie to the impressive and stunning physique she has today!

Being so active in the fitness world, and having to be ‘comp-ready’ all year round, means Sophie has to keep up with her beauty regime. Here are some of Sophie’s top beauty tips!

What inspired you to start training/competing?

I need some ‘me’ time. I had just gone through a rough marriage breakdown and didn’t really know who I was anymore… besides being a mum and a wife! I then had a really bad car accident and doctor’s thought I would never lift weights in any way, shape or form. However, under my physio’s advice, I began weight training to gain my strength and mobility back.

What does a typical day in the life of Sophie consist of when it comes to family, diet, beauty and exercise?

I’m up at around 5.30am to prep meals and do a cardio workout before my boys wake up. Then we have breakfast together, kindy/prep runs and I’m off to work! I train somewhere in the day for 45-60 minutes, 5 days a week. However, I ensure this never cuts into my family time. My diet is pretty regimented and can be followed online at www.sophieguidolin.com.au. Beauty for me is pretty simple – I use and LOVE Kosmea Rose Hip Oil 24/7 Radiance. It’s an oil that you put on our face and it gives you an instant glow – I LOVE IT! It also means I don’t have to wear too much make up. My hair is naturally very curly so most days it is blow dried out. However, there are always “those” days where I look like a baby orang-utan. LOL. My boys go to bed at 6.30pm every night and I follow at about 9.30-10pm… to wake up the next morning and do it all again!

What healthy foods, do you believe, contribute to healthy and glowing hair/skin?

Nuts! They are high in essential fats, along with almonds and salmon. Lucky they are yummy!

How do you get yourself competition ready when it comes to hair removal, tanning and skin care?

Well, I get all of my Laser Hair Reduction treatments at The Laser Lounge as I don’t want any ingrown bumps or waxing marks on stage, my tanning is done by my beautiful cousins using Vani-T and in terms of skincare I use Kosmea products!

What advice would you give to any women who are interested in embarking on a fitness journey?

To believe in themselves, no matter who they are or where they are at… you can achieve your goals! It will require dedication, commitment and a lot of energy but it is always worth it if it is a personal goal!

Stay tuned for further info on Sophie’s fitness achievements this year – we are rooting for you Soph! :)
